We are MOVING!

Yes, The Creating Place is MOVING! Starting in May we will be located in the Senate Building at 175 South Franklin. We are on the ground floor, third store on the left. We have alot of stuff so this Friday and Saturday we are going to have a garage sale at the current Creating Place location on Seward. Friday we will be here from 11-6pm and Saturday 8am - 6pm. Cash or checks accepted on garage sale items.

Fun First Friday

First Friday - April 4th couldn't have been better. The weather was nice. Creativity was in the air. Juneauites were out and about. What made First Friday so much fun you might be asking, well, the array of Cooky crafts, the handmade sweet little cupcakes, the window models causing a stir on the street, and most of all the Craft Addicts themselves. They are a very talented and fun group of Alaskan crafters always being creative. If you missed First Friday don't fret the Craft Addicts have a fine selection of handmade crafts that will be available at the Creating Place through May

Scrap it!

Here are the layouts we did for the March Saturday Scrap class...Easter08_2

Easter06

Six_months_3

123The theme for this month's sketch is: photos! Lots of photos. We used one large (5x7) photo and 12(approx. 2x2) small photos. Alter the sketch to fit more journaling. Whether it's lots of pictures or lots of journaling...the more the better! Look for info on the next Saturday Scrap class where YOU can complete [at least] 3 two-page layouts. Scrap it!

What new experiences teach you...

Well, I am back from my brief stint in Africa--what a wonderful experience!!  I got to meet some awesome people, see terrific things and overall have an excellent time!!  I saw a lot of handmade art, including some from a women's cooperative (handmade cloth, embrodiery, jewlery) and was really excited to see people use what was around them (like using seeds for the counting game, cocoa beads in necklaces, local grasses in weavings)--don't forget to think about this when you are trying to rack your brain for what you can branch out as your next art form--there is plenty of unusual unique product around you (esp if you live in such a rich enviroment as we do!!)  Remember, others who don't live where you do may find that local plant (that you find common-place and boring) amazing and collector worthy...enjoy the awe inspiring pics included below!!  amyP3130229_2 P3150311 P3140246_3 P3170456 P3170531 P3190741 P3120166 P3110107_4 P3170533_4 Amy2

The shop has been busy this week with crafters crafting. Did you know that you can craft at the Creating Place any time during business hours as long as there isn't a class being taught. If it's a rainy day and you want to get out of the house for an hour you could stop by and mosaic or decopatch. We will get you all set up and leave you to your artistic vision. Creating chases away the rainy day blues for a little while anyway.

There is a lot of creative learning going on this month with Cabin Fever and the Rain Forest Retreat. It's the perfect time to learn a new crafting technique. Until I started working creatively at The Creating Place I made things, however, I wouldn't say I was crafty but I've jumped right in. I am hooked. There are so many things to learn about crafting and I am looking forward to learning as much as I can.

Decopatch Eggs

Jen has been at it again. With Easter around the corner these unique eggs are a great egdition to your Easter collection (OK that was dumb) but hey.

Decopatch Eggs

Materials Needed: Paper Mache Eggs, Paperpatch Glue, Decopatch Tissue

Deco_jar_and_egg You'll need a soft flat glue brush too!

Start by tearing up small pieces of the Decopatch Tissue (about the size of a quarter or smaller.

Apply the glue to a small section of the egg. Next apply one of the tissue pieces to the glued area. Make sure there is glue covering under the paper, otherwise you'll get bubblesDeco_egg_1

Keep working until you've covered the entire egg.

Deco_egg_4 These are great. If you want to join us and make one of your own..we're offering a Lunchtime Class on 3/12 from 12:15 - 1:00PM Hope to see you then!-Anji
